Abstract painting, photographs from the Fassbinder era, performance and an installation made of threads and light: five galleries are all it takes to cut right across the city's art scene at the Long Night of Museums in Regensburg. On 10 October, you have from 6 pm to 1 am to do it. Four venues are in the old town, and the shuttle takes you to the fifth.
ART AFFAIR – Gallery for Modern Art

The exhibition "Raphael Rack – Die Tiefe des Raums" (The Depth of Space) shows abstract painting that is built up layer by layer. Rack applies paint, reworks it and exposes it again until dense, almost tangible surfaces emerge. The pictures do not commit to any one reading and look slightly different from every angle.

Galerie Claus

Galerie Claus specialises in fine art photography. The exhibition "Rainer & Hanna" is a retrospective on Rainer Werner Fassbinder and the West German film world of the 1970s, photographed by Michael Friedel. The analogue photographs show Hanna Schygulla, Gunter Sachs and Klaus Kinski, among others. Friedel, born in 1935, has also photographed Elvis Presley and Romy Schneider.

Gallery Panta Rhei

"Art UP" brings together three artists who see art as a force for shaping the future. Their work is experimental: live performance, ephemeral meditation art and structures made of paper, fine granules and paint. The focus is on emotions and social issues.
Address: Watmarkt 4
Kunstforum Ostdeutsche Galerie

The permanent exhibition "Woher kommen wir, wohin gehen wir?" (Where do we come from, where are we going?) leads through two centuries of art, to the Baltic Sea and to cities such as Breslau, Königsberg and Prague. In the foyer, artist Susanne Hanus stretches out one of her thread installations, which stand for the connections and dependencies of a networked world. Light and music set the stage for the work on this evening. Short guided tours begin at 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 pm. The Kunstforum can be reached by shuttle; the stop is Ostdeutsche Galerie.
Address: Dr.-Johann-Maier-Straße 5
Städtische Galerie at the Leerer Beutel

At the Städtische Galerie, the municipal gallery, the collection becomes a stage: the art guides from the improv theatre Chamäleon explore the works together with the audience. The cover image of the Long Night also hangs here, and the artist Barbara Muhr presents it in person. Peter Engel leads visitors through his current exhibition and gives an insight into the way he works. The special exhibition "SPUREN" (Traces) shows works by Susanne Böhm, Gisela Conrad, Helga Weichmann-Schaum and Wolfgang Keuchl and asks what remains of a life devoted to art.
