Music and Readings

The Long Night offers plenty to hear as well as plenty to see. Between 6 pm and 1 am, the programme ranges from Baroque music in church to jazz at the Leerer Beutel and a reading in a café. These five venues are well worth a visit for anyone planning their night by ear.

Cathedral Parish Church of St. Ulrich Niedermünster

- 7:00 pm: "Barock in Vollendung" (Baroque Perfected) with music by Bach, Handel and Telemann, performed by Duo Inspiración on flutes and harpsichord
- 7:45 pm: "Melodie der fallenden Blätter" (Melody of the Falling Leaves), an autumn programme from Baroque to jazz for soprano and piano
- 8:30 pm: "Zwischentöne" (Nuances) between tradition and the present day, with violin, vocals and piano
- 9:15 pm: "Resonanzen" (Resonances), improvisation and meditation in light jazz with saxophone and piano

Basilica of St. Emmeram

The illuminated interior of the Basilica of St. Emmeram. On this night, St. Emmeram opens all of its rooms, including the 11th-century Chapel of Mary Magdalene, which is otherwise closed to the public. As you walk through the church, light, sound and texts lead you through the biblical Apocalypse and set it against modern ideas. A jazz quartet plays at 8:45 pm, followed at 10:00 pm by a concert for choir and organ with the Cantemus Choir. Drinks and a chance to talk are on offer in the vestibule.

Jazzclub Regensburg at the Leerer Beutel

Programme photo of the Jazzclub at the Leerer Beutel The Jazzclub fills the hall at the Leerer Beutel with music all night long, from 6 pm to 1 am. On stage is the Regensburg ensemble jazz4mation, led by singer Johanna Christ-Ponnath, with their programme "The Art of Pop": easy listening, jazz, pop and Latin. Bassist Jochen Benkert joins them for the Long Night. Drinks are available too.

Neupfarrkirche

Programme photo of the Jazzclub at the Leerer Beutel The Protestant Neupfarrkirche stands on the foundations of a Roman legionary camp and has shaped the old town for centuries. During the Long Night, readings and short concerts alternate there. The concerts each last 30 to 45 minutes and are played by students from Prof. Stefan Baier's organ class at the HfKM Regensburg. The programme runs from 6 pm to midnight.

Regensburger Zeitung at Café Goldenes Kreuz

Photo of the Regensburger Zeitung lettering on a glass façade The Regensburger Zeitung invites you to Café Goldenes Kreuz on Haidplatz. There, Munich author Iris Häusl presents her books "Zeit im Stein" (Time in Stone) and "Der Schrei der Schneeflocke" (The Cry of the Snowflake). The readings last around 20 minutes and begin at 7:00, 8:00 and 9:00 pm. In between, the Regensburg band Zimtallee plays pan flute, kazoo and folk guitars. A shop-window exhibition also tells the story of the newspaper industry.
