** Regensburgische Botanische Gesellschaft von 1790 e.V.**

The society (RBG), which was added to Bavaria’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in March 2026, was founded in Regensburg on 14 May 1790 by David Heinrich Hoppe (1760–1846) together with three like-minded individuals. The aim of this association was to improve botanical knowledge, particularly among his fellow pharmacists. The main measures undertaken to achieve this goal included the establishment of a specialist library (now housed at the University Library of Regensburg), the creation of a herbarium (now held at the Botanical Institute of the University of Regensburg), the publication of scientific works (Botanisches Taschenbuch, Flora, Hoppea, etc.), and the organisation of excursions.

In 1813, the princely House of Thurn und Taxis provided the RBG with suitable premises for carrying out its activities. These rooms can still be visited today at Waffnergasse 15 in St. Emmeram Palace. The recently established museum located there features an exhibition on the RBG and the historic pharmacies of Regensburg, as well as a display room.
