An archive by night, a new museum inside a palace, a villa full of regional culture: on 10 October, the Long Night of Museums opens doors that stay shut the rest of the year. None of the three stops requires registration.
City Archive in the Runtingerhaus

The Stadtarchiv is taking part in the Long Night for the first time. Its staff present special items and little-known documents from the Middle Ages to the present, and talk about archive education and historical outreach. Tours and short talks start at 6:30, 7:30, 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30 pm, on topics such as old scripts, family history research and heraldry. The archive is open from 6 pm to 1 am.

Regensburg Botanical Society of 1790

The society was founded on 14 May 1790 by the pharmacist David Heinrich Hoppe and three like-minded friends to spread botanical knowledge. Since March 2026, it has been on Bavaria's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. In 1813, the House of Thurn und Taxis gave it rooms in St. Emmeram Palace. A museum has recently opened there, with an exhibition on the society and on Regensburg's old pharmacies, plus a display room. Tours start every 30 minutes from 6 pm, with no registration needed and up to 15 people each.

Weinschenk-Villa

Two institutions of the Upper Palatinate district are guests at the Weinschenk-Villa. The district's cultural heritage office shows pieces from its traditional costume collection and the Upper Palatinate folk music archive, along with short talks, a Zwiefacher dance class and interpretations of historical sheet music. In the Heimatmobil, you can hear how people speak in the Upper Palatinate, and films tell of Jewish life in Regensburg and the region. From the district's art collection, highlights include a self-portrait by Max Wissner, who lived and worked in the villa for several years. The psychiatry museum of medbo also brings exhibits.

The Sudeten German Music Institute shows historical scores and composers' estates and presents its work on the musical culture of Bohemia. The villa is open from 6 pm to 1 am and can be reached by shuttle, stop Justizgebäude.
