Fürst Thurn und Taxis Museen: Reithalle mit Kutschensammlung (Riding Hall with Court Stables)

The court stables were among the most important representational areas of a princely residence. Architect Jean-Baptiste Métivier constructed the stables of this princely palace between 1829 and 1832. The complex consists of stable wings for the horses and a 600-square-meter riding hall adorned with sculptural works by Ludwig von Schwanthaler. The Riding Hall with Carriage Collection, considered one of the finest of its kind in Europe, features an extensive collection of 18th- and 19th-century carriages, sleighs, sedan chairs, and carrying chairs. Ceremonial harnesses and riding equipment further illustrate the elaborate equestrian traditions of the Thurn und Taxis family.
